How American resort towns do it differently

American resort towns like Aspen, Vail, Beaver Creek and Breckenridge do après differently from the Alps, and the difference is worth knowing before you pick a destination. Aspen's version happens at altitude on the mountain itself before the town takes over for dinner. Vail spreads it across the Back Bowls crowd filtering down into the village. Beaver Creek keeps it quieter and closer to the slopeside hotels, built around ski-in ski-out convenience rather than a town square. Breckenridge leans into its historic Main Street, where the après hour blends into a mining-town evening that has been running since long before skiing arrived. Why Cortina d'Ampezzo is becoming a serious après destination

Cortina d'Ampezzo and the surrounding Dolomites are becoming a serious après-ski destination for reasons beyond scenery. The town hosted alpine events at the 2026 Winter Olympics, which put its lifts, its terraces and its mountain restaurants in front of an audience that had mostly overlooked it in favor of Courchevel or St. Moritz. What makes it work for après specifically is the geography: the Dolomites turn a genuine rose color at last light, a local phenomenon called enrosadira, and Cortina's rifugios are positioned to catch it from a terrace with a drink already poured.
